From Sun to Storms at Heckington 10 miler

The sudden change in weather bringing heavy rain and very high winds bought an inspection of the course for Saturday mornings ten mile road race, one of Heckington Shows main attractions. Debris on the roads including tree branches had to be removed but like the show, the race went ahead.

Boston Community Runners took the black and yellow stripes the short distance to take part. Starting right on schedule the race set off in the main ring doing a full lap and then headed out into the village on a two lap course taking in Heckington Fen as well. The weather was much kinder with the previous days storms cooling the air. The wind was still quite strong and it was a head wind that the runners met twice as they ran back to Heckington from the fen making everyone dig deep to power through. All the Boston runners had strong runs and were pleased with the times recorded. John Burton was the first club runner in with a time of 1.13.35, he was closely followed by Nathan Saw fresh from his run last week at Grimsby with a time of 1.17.12 giving him a new personal best time at this distance. Kimberley Pittam had a solid run clocking 1.26.14 with Fran Mills chasing her home in 1.32.52 a time that gave her 4th place in her age category. Sarah Burton crossed the line in 1.42.11 her first time at this race and Jackie Hallett beat her two hour target she set by coming home in 1.54.12 , a time that gave her 1st place in her age category.
