A Busy July for Boston Runners.

July is going to be a busy month for Boston Community Runners. The club that only started in April is continuing to grow steadily and earlier in the month saw one of its newest members take on the Thurlby 10K near Bourne. Gary Beck-Sykes had an excellent run, despite the field of runners being sent down the wrong lane briefly!! “It was a very challenging run”, Gary reported, “I wasn't expecting quite so many hills”! Gary managed to complete the course in 57.32 and was very pleased with the result.

It was a perfect day weather wise for the Spilsby Show and the runners that took part in the road race found the going very hot and humid. Four runners represented Boston, the first time the colours have been worn at the event. First back for the Community Runners was John Burton who came home in 43.51 and was pleased with his time on the undulating course. Tanya Knight decided wisely to pull out after a couple of miles rather than risking injury on the stony farm tracks which may well have hampered her training schedule for her future distance races. Rachel Conway was well under the hour and Sarah Burton was just over the hour in 1.01.16

Boston Parkrun continues to be a popular way to start a Saturday morning. The free weekly timed 5k events are worldwide and start at 9am prompt. Getting well over 100 runners, joggers and walkers the Witham Way Country Park comes alive with people of all ages. Members of BCR are usually there either running volunteering or both on most weekends and a number of their beginners use the parkrun as part of their workout. This week saw both Anita Young and Dawn Skinner both shave minutes off their previous parkrun time. It's a great atmosphere to build up to being able to run for a longer time. Both were thrilled with what they've achieved so far.

Rob Cross ran the Heckington 10 miler for Boston Community Runners and crossed the line in a very respectable 1.12.07 taking 49th position in a field of nearly 220 runners at this ever popular event. Having not covered this distance for quite a while Rob was pleased with his efforts on the day.

What was forecast as wet and windy turned out to be a very warm running of the Dong Energy Great Grimsby 10k. Now in its second year the race attracted over 2300 athletes to the start line. Boston Community Runners were there with four runners taking on the challenge with Gary Beck-Sykes having a great run crossing the line in 54.10 and bagging a new PB as well. Closely followed home by Sarah Clarke who after 3 weeks off stormed back with a time of 57.16, again a new personal best at this distance. Sarah Burton was just over the hour finishing in 1.00.37 with Samantha Cross not far behind in 1.03.41 running her quickest 10k of the year. In what is one of the best organised races in the Lincolnshire calendar the club runners runners were all very pleased with their times and vowed to return to take on the challenge again next year.

Boston runners headed to Bolingbroke last Wednesday evening to tackle the hills in an eight mile race. The weather was kind after showers throughout the day. 50 runners competed and the Boston representatives did the town proud. Daniel Clark had a fabulous run to take third place in a time of 51.57. John Burton was the 2nd club runner home in 1.03.48 and 17th overall. Third home for Boston was Lee Winter in his first comeback race with a very respectable 1.13.16. For the ladies Tanya Knight and Rebecca Conway crossed the line in 1.20.03 and 1.20.26 respectively. Considering how flat Boston is the runners were very happy in completing the challenge of the hills.
