November and the Autumn Runs.

Boston Community Runners took their colours to the Three Rivers Challenge at South Kyme on Sunday. Six members ran the almost 15 mile route that follows the riverbanks of the Slea, Skirth and Witham and took the runners through Billinghay, Tattershall Bridge and Chapel Hill before heading back towards South Kyme. The event is put on to raise funds for the village by the villagers and is open to both runners and walkers. With most using it as a long training run it was Dan Clark who chased the leaders down with a great run managing to take 3rd place overall in a time of 1.44.59, a fabulous achievement. Martin Tebbs, John Burton, Tanya Knight and Simon Pickwell all paced each other round the course in a steady pace and all finished together in 2.18.00. Also in training for longer runs Kim Pittam and training buddy Katie Cooper took advantage of the stamina building off road route, both having excellent runs finishing in 2.29.00

The village put on a lovely array of soup and cakes with hot drinks for all the runners and walkers to greet them at the finish and it is hoped the village funds were swelled by over £600 after the event.

Sunday saw the second running of the George Munday 10K at Leverington near Wisbech. The event was hosted by Three Counties Running Club. A two minute silence and wreath laying preceded the start which saw eight members of Boston Community Runners made the short journey down for the run.

It was another windy event which saw the runners tackle a strong head wind between 4k and 9k. Beckie Dawson ran strongly and was less than 20 seconds off last years time finishing in 43.23 taking 4th lady position. Steve Langford was next back for Boston in a fast time of 53.01 with Neil Goodwin surpassing his own expectations with a time of 54.49 not far behind. Lesley Buswell was again thrilled to get under the hour in 59.37 with Sarah Burton putting in another solid performance crossing the line in 1.03.25. Dawn Cobb had a super run and was not far behind in 1.03.56 with Jackie Hallett hot on her heals in 1.04.53. Kerry McCrainor had her first race back since a knee injury sidelined her, and saw her complete the course in 1.13.15, a time she was thrilled with have only had three 5k runs before the event.

Back in Boston the 5 mile Poppy Run hosted by Boston & District AC took place starting at the Beehive on Great Fen Road. Again, the wind was whipping across the open fields as the 100+ runners took to the road. Three Community Runners took part and saw Stephen Cornwell the first club runner back in a time of 39.25 which gave him the 1st Vet 60 Trophy. Michael Corney was the 2nd club runner back in 40.24 with Carole Page bringing the BCR colours home in a strong finish.
