Boston Community Runners headed over to Grantham for the rearranged Newtons Fraction Half Marathon on Sunday. The race, usually held early in the year and used as a good practice for those training for the London Marathon, fell foul this year to the Beast from the East but was able to take place on Sunday. In a complete opposite weather-wise the blue skies and warm sun beating down made for a very hot race. The runners headed out of Grantham into the Lincolnshire countryside and onto the Grantham to Nottingham Canal towpath for nearly 3 miles to Woolsthorpe by Belvoir, taking in a couple of long testing hills along the way before returning back into the stadium for a ‘grandstand’ finish. Dan Clark bought the Boston colours home in 1.35.22 giving him 32nd place, a time he was very pleased with having come back from an ankle injury. Martin Tebbs was not far behind in 1.39.49 with John Burton the third club runner home in 1.46.22. Ian Ruddock had a good run clocking 1.48.27 and Simon Pickwell was pleased to be under two hours on his first attempt on this course crossing the line in 1.56.14. The final club runner back was Michael Corney who only started running this year and completed his first 5k run back in January. Just about eight months later he tackled his first half marathon, and not the easiest with those hills! Michael finished in great style sprinting round the stadium to finish in a time of 2.10.40 and was thrilled with his achievement.
Louth Triathlon took place on Sunday too. A popular event & distance for 1st timers as well as the more experienced triathlete! Held at the Meridian Leisure Centre in Louth for the swim section then moving through transition the competitors ran down a small hill to the bike mount line in the neighbouring school fields. On the bike a technical course took everyone along some quiet Lincolnshire country roads. After the cycle ride came the run which took you around some of the lanes in Louth and up an old disused train line along Railway Walk. The run was very picturesque through this hidden gem in Louth. Carmen Clark improved again from her previous event clocking a total time of 2.03.13
