GNR, New Forest Marathon & the East Coast Classic......and Sunshine!

September 30, 2018

Some big races in the calendar saw the colours of Boston Community Runners taking part. Lining up with Mo Farah in the Great North Run was Gary Beck-Sykes. Along with over fifty thousand runners Gary had a super time finishing in two and a half hours and said that the atmosphere was amazing. “There was crowds from start to end”, said Gary. Finishing on the coast in South Shields Gary arrived in time to catch the Red Arrows display which capped the occasion off perfectly.

At the other end of the country the New Forest Marathon was taking place. Friends Tanya Knight and Rachel Conway chose this tough course as their first marathon and have been training hard over the last few months gradually building up their distance and stamina to last out the 26.2 miles. The run wended its way through the heart of the New Forest National Park and the multi-terrain course offered some of the most scenic views a race can give! With their families there to cheer them on both Boston runners dug deep and finished in great times for their first marathon. Tanya was thrilled to cross the finish line in 4.05.49 with Rachel finishing in 4.37.57 giving them PB times on a tough marathon course.

In the middle of the country was the East Coast Classic 10k. Running along the prom from Mablethorpe to Sutton on Sea and back again the sell-out event is very popular amongst runners from Lincolnshire. Fifteen Bostons runners lined up to compete and everyone did the town proud. Kirtons Jake Fountain was the first club runner back in 44.46 with Nathan Saw just a minute behind bagging himself another PB in 46.38. Andy Butler ran a blinder to cross the line in 46.57. Stephen Cornwell was next back in 51.18 with Dianne Houghton having a fabulous run in 52.35. Kimberley Pittam wasn't going to let the back end of a cold stop her running but carefully paced herself to finish in 53.14. Graham English had a strong run crossing the line in 59.10 with Lesley Buswell hot on his heels getting a new PB in 59.20. Sharon English had a solid run finishing just over the hour in 1.00.26 with Sarah Burton a minute behind in 1.01.29. Jackie Hallett chased for home in 1.04.28 with Nicola Housam seconds behind her in 1.04.38 followed by Carole Page in 1.06.29. Samantha Cross ran 1.07.17 with Couch to 5K graduates Maria Baker 1.33.19 and Angela Wilson 1.34.00 both getting new personal best times. At the awards ceremony a cheer went up as Jackie Hallett won the trophy for 1st Vet 65 Female. In the 3K fun for the kids saw Kimberleys sons Finley and Jack take 4th and 5th place in 14.58 and 15.35 respectively.
