Sunday saw the third running of the Orsted Grimsby 10k. The race is building in popularity with over 3000 runners making the start line this year. Boston Community Runners were there in double figures this year with 10 runners lining up in a race that was set off in two waves to help give the runners more room.
There was a slight breeze this year to help the runners and the sun did not reach its peak until most of the runners had finished but it was still a very hot race with the organisers putting on an extra water station to help keep everyone safe and hydrated.
The Boston runners all had a great run with everyone pleased with their times. Nathan Saw was the first club runner home in 48.40 and looked strong coming into the finish in the beautiful Peoples Park. Dan Simpson was next back in 54.27 with Gary Beck-Sykes getting well inside his predicted time. Gary was pleased with the result as work setting up his new business had curtailed quite a few training runs. Dianne Houghton wanted to get as near to the hour mark as possible and crossed the line in 1.00.38 and knows that the next cooler run will see her get that sub hour time. Sarah Burton produced a sprint finish to overtake three runners on the run in and finish in 1.03.16 just behind was Samantha Cross in 1.04.43. Jessica Bland had another strong run getting used to the distance and clocked 1.08.32. Only 3 seconds separated the final club runners and saw Kerry McCrainor clock 1.11.02 Steve Langford took 1.11.03 and Carole Page was 1.11.04. After having a welcoming drink and something to eat the event slowly came to an end and the Black and Yellow stripes made their way back to Boston.
